Durga Puja: Cultural or Religious Festival? – by Binoy

Durga Puran asserts the divine feminine goddess Durga to be the supreme power. She is a figure of devotional appeal amongst Hindus and is believed to be the primordial creator of the universe. Hindus worship goddess Durga as Devi who is believed to be the origin of all existence because initially, the supreme power was ‘Nirguna’ (without form) which later manifested herself as three Shaktis (Sattvik, Rajasi, and Tamasi). She is worshipped as the powerful creator and the compassionate deity. This divine feminine has the enlightened knowledge to whom all masculine deities befuddled by problems approach for help and are dependent on her grace because she is believed to be the protector of the universe
